Making room for Jesus. – Devotional

Well, how do we make room for Christ in our lives? The truth is, he should actually already be at the center. We shouldn’t have the question of “how to fit him into our life/days.“ He should be our life. Walking with Jesus is a lifestyle.

Sometimes we have a really bad habit of making Jesus a hobby that makes us feel good when we have time or when it’s convenient for us. Sometimes we treat him like a cushion to fall back on when things get hard, but avoid acknowledging him if we are doing “good”.

The things of this world will never satisfy the thirst our souls long for. I’m not suggesting you run away from life, leave your family, quit your job, drop out of school, etc. only  to walk with Jesus in the wilderness, but what I am saying is, it’s time to rewire how you think and live with Jesus.

The heart of the father is to walk hand-in-hand with us through ALL of our life. He wants us to learn his character and follow his leading. We don’t want to be so caught up in our daily routines that we miss when God is trying to speak to us. Or when we are so focused on our wants that we miss the Holy Spirit, leading us in the direction of his will.

We are called to be in communion with Jesus. That doesn’t just mean talking to him, but also inviting him into our lives and activities. God is so gracious to gift us the Holy Spirit, but sometimes we still overlook his existence. Let this be your reminder that God is omnipresent meaning – that God is present anywhere and everywhere at all times. God‘s presence isn’t confined to a location or time of day. In fact, if you have been saved, then his Holy Spirit dwells inside of you and you have the gift and the honor of carrying that spirit at all times.

Shift your mind to allowing life flow from Christ. Not making a small space for Jesus when it’s convenient. Don’t make Jesus a checkbox or a cushion to fall back on. Invite him into everything you do. He cares about every detail of your life. Be sensitive to his leading and watch how your life will shift. Acknowledge his presence everywhere you step and he will blow your mind with how he reveals himself to you. Shift your mind on things above, seek him, and you will see him.

Here’s some practical advice on how we can stop getting so caught up in life and become aware of his presence :

-Set a chair in the middle of your room/in your home. Everytime you pass by it will become a physical reminder that Jesus is in your midst.

-Try to talk to Jesus every time you walk somewhere. This could be to the bathroom, through the grocery store, during a class change, etc. Whenever you have to walk from point A to point B, talk to him.

-This one is risky -> Ask the Lord to mess up your routine. Breaking off the habit of being so caught up in “life stuff” and becoming aware that HE truly is the only one in control.

God is not looking for perfection. He just wants effort and willingness! He sees your heart. He is not condemning you for not making him the focus of your life. He is just patiently waiting for you to realize that your relationship with him will deepen the more you welcome him in.

Prayer

“Lord, thank you that your presence exceeds through places and timing. Thank you for gifting me your spirit to carry everywhere I step. Thank you for being so loving and kind that you want to get to know me on an intimate level. Thank you that all we have to do is invite you in. We don’t deserve anything you give us. I ask that you reveal yourself to me as I go through my day. Remind me to look for you. Remind me of your presence. Help me have the strength to submit my plans to you and to your will. Interrupt my day with an overwhelming sense of your presence and love. Amen. ”

Reflection question

“What are some things that I need to change/mess up in my daily routine to make the Lords presence my focus?”

I'm Hallie Rose

I grew up active in church but it wasn’t until 2022 that I truly encountered what it means to have a genuine relationship with Jesus. Ever since then, I’ve felt called to share how God has guided & strengthened me, hoping my journey can bring encouragement and hope to others. I’m a wife, an outdoor lover, & a coffee fanatic. I’m happiest when thrifting, hiking, spending time with people I love and connecting with you.
